Abstract: Current poplar breeding practices pose severaltheoretical problems concerning poplar heredity and breeding:(1)the poplar breeding target and the parallelism of crossed genetic variation;(2)genetic analysis has demonstrated that reciprocal recurrent selection is a valid procedure for poplar breeding;(3)backcrossing promotes egg and pollen fertility of offspring and overcomes hybrid sterity and the die young of offspring.
